Fall Mantle

Well okay, it's actually just the top of the buffet, but we don't have a mantle so this is as close as it's going to get.  I can't say that we do a lot of switching decor when the seasons change; most of our stuff is season neutral, but there are a couple of spots in the house that we do like to update.

The dining room is one of those places.  The fall mantle (yeah, I'm still gonna call it that) has a lot of natural elements (and not only because I'm cheap frugal).

The glasses came from the thrift shop ($0.25 each, woohoo).  They are filled with acorns from our trees from last year.  Did you know that acorns often have little crawlie guys inside of them?  I didn't and last year we ended up with little maggot look-a-likes crawling all over the living room floor.  Yuck.  Anyway, this year we're safe.

The hurricane was another thrift store find and is filled with clearance pot-pourri from Michael's ($1.67 for a huge bag - score).  The wheat things are leftover from the autumn wreath and the books and candle were just laying in the basement, waiting for a good use.

The box and round candle were from my brother's wedding.  The galvanized vase/pail is a hundred years old and is filled with weeds plant material from the yard.  The white pumpkins are a recent addition and too cute for words.

This wood crate is another of those had-it-forever pieces that was in the basement.  Again I cut garden weeds flowers (goldenrod maybe?) to fill it.
