Thank You So Much

This is one of those posts that you start, erase, start again, erase,....it never feels like you've nailed the message.

When I first started this blog, I thought it would be fun to share some projects and ideas with others who are interested in the same thing.  I even had a little daydream about being an inspiration to others.

Turns out that after 18 months of hanging out here with you, the opposite is true.  The very best part of blogging (and you all know this) is the community.  It's banding together with like-minded gals (and Mike, lol) to share, to spark, to support.

I want to thank you all so much for reading, stalking, commenting and contributing to this blog.  It has been surprisingly meaningful and life-changing, and that would not have been the case without you.  That said, it makes you wonder why anyone would choose to give it up, but that's what I'm doing.

I am closing up shop here at These Peas.  I will of course still be stalking all my favourite blogs and pestering everyone on Facebook.  I will also be keeping up the creativity blog Write.Create.Connect. so feel free to pop over there to say hi.

Kadie is going to be managing the entire Link It Up Thursday party herself.  So if you want to link up this week (and you do), you can head over to Seven Alive to do that.

How about a few little quotes for the road?  :)

Grillin' - Salmon Two Ways

The next time that aluminum foil goes on sale, I'm going to have to buy a case. I love using the foil on the grill for super easy grilling and even easier clean-up.

I started with two pieces of salmon and two very different appetites.  I was feeling like something sweet and my husband felt like anything BUT sweet.  So, here goes:

My piece:  a drizzle of lime juice and sweet chili sauce, a bit of salt and pepper.  Wrap it up.

His piece:  drizzle with olive oil, add lemon slices and smashed garlic, a pinch of dried red chillies, salt and pepper.  Wrap it up.

On the grill for 12 minutes, flipping over halfway.

Notice anything peculiar about the garlic on his piece?  LOL  Apparently, something in the aluminun foil reacts with the sulphur in the garlic and makes it a lovely shade of teal.  (WT,...???!!) It tastes fine and it won't hurt you, but wow,....weird.

This is the perfect recipe for entertaining.  I mean really, easy prep (you could include thin-sliced veggies if you like) and 12 minutes on the grill.  That's all there is to it.

Friday's Quotes - Ice Cream

Mmmm,...nothing says summer to me like ice cream.  Okay, nothing says fall, winter and spring to me like ice cream too, but you're probably sane and it's a summer thing for you.  Yes?

Link It Up Thursday #30

Alyssa really hit it out of the park with this puppy-themed birthday party for her 1-year-old son.

What's Cooking, Love?

Donna has a real knack for creating.  Check out all of the fabulous variations she has made of these gift tags to see what I mean.

Distressed Donna Down Home

I think we all could use a nice cold glass of iced tea to beat this summer heat.  The Not So Super Mama has us covered with an easy recipe.
The Not So Super Mama

I am such a pizza junkie that if you post a pizza picture at any of these parties, I am almost guaranteed to feature it.  Yeah, it's crazy.  Jamie's pizza has made it here of its own merits - you can't deny have amazing this pizza looks and yes, I would like a piece (or three) right now!!!

Love Bakes Good Cakes

I think that Emily should be a professional photographer with how gorgeous these family photos turned out.  The matching outfits put it right over the top.

Grillin' Series - Pizza

This pizza was inspired by Amy from Love on High Heat.  She does a margherita pizza on the grill that looks amazing.  I mirrored her technique but had entirely different ingredients on hand, so this is how mine turned out.

I grilled up a bunch of veggies.  I put cherry tomatoes (bit of oil, salt and pepper) in a foil packet and threw that on the grill.

I added peppers, zucchini, and mushrooms (again with oil, salt and pepper) straight onto the grill.

Look at the grilled deliciousness.  Mmmmm.

Next I took the grilled cherry tomatoes and whirled them in a little food processor with some garlic and basil.  This is what I used for the pizza sauce.

I also used the shallots for this pizza with a little bit of the flavoured butter as well.

From here it's pretty simple.  Spray a bit of oil on the na'an and grill for a few minutes on each side to get a crispy effect.  Then put on the grilled veggies and top with mozzarella.  Drop the barbecue cover and warm through until the cheese melts, about 5 minutes.  Enjoy, maybe with a little purple basil torn on top.  Mmmm.

What are your favourite pizza toppings?  Happy Grillin'.

Friday's Quotes - swimming

With the high temperatures everywhere this summer, nothing does the job of cooling you off quite like hopping in the pool.

Link It Up Thursday #29

I'm thinking that I either need to find a more gender-neutral descriptor or start off each week referring to "the gals and Mike".  Now, Mike (The Amateur Quilter) says that he doesn't mind being lumped in with a bunch of gals, but I don't know, lol.

Let's take a look at what caught my eye last week:

Ha, I love the yardsticks that Ellen used to transform her $2 stool into this little bit of whimsy (and yes, I really wanted to use the word whimsy - so cute).

Creative Passage

Wow, wait until you see all of the fabulous changes that Katie has made to create this fabulous hallway makeover.

Creatively Living
I have a thing for tote bags.  I adore this black, grey and yellow one that Pam made.

Threading My Way

I love learning new travel tips that make my life easier.  Margaret has a great method for packing that lets her get a lot more stuff into her carry-on suitcase (yes, I said carry-on).

Chica es Artistica

I am completely in love with the utter cutest of Sarah's watermelon coin purse.  Great tutorial on her site for the how-to.

Grillin' - Buttery Shallots

You might not think you're into shallots, but this little buttery piece of heaven will change your mind.  Seriously.

AND, it couldn't be easier.

In my quest to keep summertime meals out on the grill, these shallots can be a fabulous addition to almost anything:  topping an awesome steak, as the base for a fabulous pizza or quesadilla; in a packet with fish, tomatoes, and olives; even served on the side of pork skewers.  So versatile.  So delicious.  So easy.

Are you familiar with shallots?  If you're not, to prepare them, all I do is cut off both ends, cut them in half, and remove the outer peel.

Put them in a barbecue-safe dish.  I have a dollar-store ovenware dish that I use.  Add a few generous (generous) dollops of butter, salt, and pepper.

Cover with tin foil and set on the top shelf of your barbecue (ignoring the crusty pieces of fish from yesterday's grilling that still remain).  Close the top and let it go for 45 minutes.

Carefully remove from the grill (that butter is liquidy and hot - a deadly combination if you spill it on yourself).  It's as easy as that.

I should warn you not to go digging up that onion-garlic buttery goodness in the bottom of the dish.  You definitely do not want to be scooping that up onto a piece of fresh bread.  Mmmmmmm,....no, I said no.

Ah well, now you've gone and done it.  You'll just have to finish it now and I don't want to hear a single complaint about tight jeans in the morning.  ;)

A New Blog

Hey all.  This is an unusual post for me, but I wanted to let you know that I have started another blog and thought you might be interested in checking it out.  It's different from this one, more artsy I suppose, still creative.  There will be more of my fumblings with a paint brush, some writing, book reviews and maybe some mixed media on a brave day.

If that's not your thing, no worries.  I am still going to enjoy you keeping me company over here.  If it sounds like something you might find interesting, please pop on over and see me.

It is called:  Write. Create. Connect.

Either way, have a fabulous weekend my dears.

Friday's Quotes - Gardening

It has felt to me like the first real week of summer with too much heat and humidity, parades and parties, and lots of time in the gardening.  Here's to the gardening.  :)
