Wind Storm

I know that the entire continent has been enduring some freaky weather patterns, especially this year.  It seems that southern Ontario is no exception.  We had a wicked wind storm yesterday that apparently flipped over several transport trucks on the highway, threw patio furniture right through the window of a restaurant,  downed trees and power lines like dominoes, and knocked out the power to most of southern Ontario for at least several hours.  Some people still don't have power this morning.  I know.  Very scary stuff.

Here are some pictures of the trees that came down in our yard.  I sat huddled with the dogs on the couch, wondering when the next fallen tree would come through a window.  It didn't.  Whew.

Jewelry Board

I have caught the bug.  Michelle at All That's Comfortable has made a couple of the sweetest jewelry/bulletin boards and now I must have one.  A couple months ago I revamped a bulletin board into a funky green and black piece for my office.  As so often happens, I loved it for awhile.  But now?  Not so much.

No More Wrinkles

Aren't we always happy for a shortcut that will make laundry or cleaning easier?  I know I am so I was excited to try two recipes from Homemade Mamas.

A Little Organization

This drawer was driving me nuts.  I have been known to be completely obsessed with the tiniest details of keeping our home clutter-free, and yet here is this drawer.  And to make it worse, this drawer is entirely mine;  I can't blame anyone else for how bad it looks.

Table Runner

Do you remember this piece of fabric?

I picked it up from the clearance bin and had no idea what to do with it so I asked for ideas.  Yvonne from Style Burb had suggested a table runner and that sounded like a good idea to me.  I knew that our kitchen table needed a little something and hoped that my rudimentary sewing skills would be able to handle a few hems.

Drop Earrings

I started off the afternoon trying to sew.  Trying being the operative word.  I don't actually know how to sew,...yet.  So it wasn't really going very well.  I was doing a lot of sewing and ripping out, sewing and ripping out.  I am completely confident in my ability to rip out a seam now but no closer to accomplishing anything tangible.

So, I moved on to some jewelry making and tried these drop earrings from the website Jewelry-Making.com.  There is a fabulous little tutorial on that site with great pictures of each step.

I started with these pieces:

Driveway Progress

I've been attempting a sewing project all afternoon that hasn't been going very well so I thought you might like to see an update on the driveway.

Sun in the Desert

Do you have trouble with the difference between desert and dessert?  Well, I'm off to the desert to partake in one too many dessert.  Hubbie, my mom, step-dad, brother (who is 40 today) and sister-in-law are all heading to Las Vegas tonight/tomorrow.

We're being picked up at 4am.  Ouch.  So, have a fabulous week and I'll see you all back on Monday.

New Driveway

Doesn't this look exciting?

This is our gravel driveway being turned into a brick driveway.  Well, sort of.  Right now it's our gravel driveway being turned into a mess, but I have faith people.

Now, if someone can keep the rain at bay, that would be awesome.

Another Book Page Wreath

My fingers are burnt, there is glitter on everything including supper, and I'm pleased as punch.  Must mean I've jumped on the book page wreath bandwagon.

Fabric Without a Purpose

I want to learn how to sew. Actually, I have wanted to learn how to sew for decades now but up until now I have been going with the osmosis method.  I figured that if I checked out enough blogs and patterns and completed projects that I would magically know how to sew.

Obviously that hasn't happened.  So now is the time for a change of tactic.  Today, I went to Fabricland and picked up three pieces of fabric from the clearance bin.  I have no idea what to do with them, I just liked how pretty they looked.

Rag Wreath

Now that it is officially spring, April for crying out loud, I thought it might be time to take down the Christmas wreath on the front door.  No, I'm not kidding.  In January, I stripped it down to just greenery and a big red bow, telling myself that it could pass for a winter wreath and remain on the front door a little longer.

Well, I think we can all agree that it's time.  Spring has sprung and all that (even if it did snow last night). So I played with a few ideas for a replacement wreath, but in the end I decided to go with a rag wreath because it looked easy enough for even me to do and I had all of the stuff, which is really just some fabric and a hanger. My kind of simple.

Ikea, Pizza, and Flowers

Yesterday, we went to Ikea.  My mom, Gary, and me. Ahhhhhhhhh,....I love, love, love Ikea (who doesn't, right).  I had wanted to pick up some pillow forms (they were only $1.99) but when I actually saw them, they seemed a bit too small and underfilled for my liking so I passed on them.  Instead, I picked up these things (because you can't leave Ikea empty-handed, can you!):
