Bathroom Wall Art

My poor husband is lucky enough to have his own powder room, but unfortunate enough that I don't go in there to notice that it isn't decorated.  At all.  It is completely bare except for a mirror.  Very, very sad.

Of course he would never complain but the last time I cleaned in there, I noticed just how lame it looked and decided to fix it up.

This powder room is attached to our en suite bath so I wanted to keep the theme (monochrome beachy) the same.

I started with a canvas from the dollar store.  I marked off 2-inch intervals with a pencil on the back.

Next I took some twine and wound it around the canvas, starting at the back (which I stapled using the staple gun).  I wound the twine twice at every 2-inch mark, then did a diagonal on the back side.  Here is the back side.

This is what the front looked like after I trimmed most of the scragglies:

I got out my glue gun and a bag of small shells (again the dollar store) and just starting gluing one shell per square.

After each square had a shell, this is what it looked like.

I hung it up.  Pretty simple.

I found a clear glass vase and then picked some weeds goldenrod from the yard.  I added the remainder of the shells to the vase so that you can't see the stems.  It will dry to a more neutral colour and match even better in a few weeks.

This is where I'm partying:

Love, love the goldenrod. If I did this for my husband there's a good chance he wouldn't even notice. :o) Hope your hubs liked it! I'm off today. My teachers are at a conference. Going to the dentist (blah) and then the antique mall (yay!)

That was perfect, just enough and not to fussy. Simple but very clever! Looks great!

Great ideas! I am always looking for fun things to do with seashells...I feel like we come home with so many every time we go to the beach!

Love the canvas idea! I should've done something like this after our summer beach trip, but ended up ditching the shells for lack of a better idea. Next year, however, I'm going to remember this one. Thanks! :)

Great coastal touches! So the goldenrod will just dry out eventually..., awesome!

Well done - simple and beachy is exactly what you have accomplished. I didn't know that goldenrod dries well. I should cut some and give it a try as I love their shape.
