Serving Pieces

I'm not sure how I got there, but I ended up on the infinitely artistic site of Jerri Neddermeyer over at Waste Not 2011.  She is such an interesting gal, focusing on felting, lots of knitting and wire work.  This is where I first saw these wire-wrapped utensils and fell in love.  Here are her serving pieces:

Aren't they gorgeous!  Apparently she made a matching beaded platter as well.  Wow.

Well I decided I wanted to give these a try and I am so glad that I did.  Here is how my first attempt turned out:

There are so many ways to go with different beads and heavier gauge wire.  I can't wait to try another version.  I started this set with 20-gauge wire and looped it to form a base.

I then just wrapped the wire around, threaded on a bead or two, positioned the beads so they would lay flat on the upper surface of the spoon or fork, and then continued to wrap and thread.

At the end I just tucked the wire into the back of another wrap of wire to secure it.  I'm sure these are hand wash only, but I find them really festive and fun so I'm okay with them being a little fragile.  I should probably make a brown set to match the napkin rings from last week.

I can't wait to use them.

This is where I'm partying:

I love them! I think I'll do that with my Christmas dishes with red beads. Oh, and I might do Greg's toothbrush just to see his reaction!

I've always loved these! They sell for so much money in stores so it's great that you were able to make them yourself. Looks fabulous!
